Hanham Secure Health

“Striving for continuity and equivalence of healthcare for patients across the secure estate.” Hanham Secure Health Limited (HSH) is a private healthcare organisation delivering NHS commissioned primary care services to secure environments. The company was formed by the Hanham Health GP Partners in early 2020 when the opportunity arose to expand on the GP services it they had been delivering in prisons since 2005 and to take on the full physical health nursing service within the local prison cluster. As of 1st April 2020, HSH has worked alongside Avon & Wiltshire Mental Health Partnership NHS Trust (AWP) to deliver a holistic healthcare service to offenders within the five prison establishments in Bristol, South Gloucestershire and Wiltshire. This service is commissioned by NHS England Health & Justice, in partnership with the Ministry of Justice (MOJ) and Her Majesty’s Prison and Probation Service (HMPPS). In addition, HSH works alongside AWP at two secure children’s homes, a secure forensic hospital and a rehabilitation unit. Individuals held within secure establishments, such as prisons, secure children’s homes, rehabilitation units and forensic psychiatry units, face a range of challenges and barriers in accessing and receiving primary care services that equitable to services within the community. These individuals often arrive into the secure establishments from circumstances where they have been particularly vulnerable and marginalised and having had little or no previous healthcare support. At HSH, we deliver primary healthcare services to patients within the secure estate and we strive to ensure that these services are of an equitable standard and have equitable accessibility as would be expected in the community.
