Gelion plc was founded in April 2015 as a spin-out from the University of Sydney to commercialise the zinc-bromide battery technology invented by Professor Thomas Maschmeyer. The company listed on the London Stock Exchange AIM market in November 2021. Gelion's breakthrough battery technology aims to power the future of renewable energy storage. Gelion has developed a disruptive battery technology platform based on low-cost, non-flow zinc-bromide chemistry. Gelion’s innovation arises from the versatility of its patented gel technology, capable of adapting to multiple battery chemistries for a wide range of energy storage applications, while providing a high level of safety for stationary energy storage that is not achievable from current lithium-ion and lead-acid technologies. Gelion has also announced a mobile energy division. By using the latest in nanotechnology, Gelion is developing performance additives for lithium batteries to power the next generation of energy storage systems for electric vehicles and electric aviation.
