Information
Emergency Food Network (EFN) distribiutes more than 15 million pounds of food annually at no cost to 67 food banks, meal sites, and shelters in Pierce County. To achieve its mission of providing "a reliable food supply so that no person in Pierce County goes hungry," EFN has four distinct components: 1. Collection, storage, distribution, and delivery of donated, purchased, and government food through the Distribution Center in Lakewood. 2. Production of fresh fruits, vegetables, and honey at Mother Earth Farm in Orting, WA. 3. Packaging of perishable food through the Repack Project in Lakewood, the harvesting of produce left over in fields and gardens through the Pierce County Gleaning Project, a partnership with St. Leo Food Connection. 4. Growing apples and plums in partnership with the Korean Women's Association at The Orchard in Roy, WA. Together, these programs create a unique system that allows EFN to distribute high-quality and nutritious food to individuals in need. Last year, a majority of EFN's partner programs relied solely on the food provided by EFN. With thirteen full-time staff, four part-time staff, and more than 2,500 community volunteers, EFN efficiently feeds the people of Pierce County experiencing food insecurity.
