Duke Health is the youngest of the nation's leading medical institutions. It has grown in 85 years from a regional hospital, medical school, and nursing school into one of the country's leading clinical and biomedical research enterprises. Duke Health Development and Alumni Affairs (DHDAA) drives Duke Health's philanthropic efforts, from identifying opportunities for individuals to support a host of health areas to facilitating transformational gift opportunities for donors. DHDAA encompasses a full slate of resources and services designed to support the department's donor-centric fundraising and includes dedicated staff for research, communications, donor relations, and events.
The recent arrival of Dr. A. Eugene Washington as Chancellor for Health Affairs, Duke University and President and CEO of Duke University Health System, promises to be a pivotal moment for DHDAA. From his first days in the post, Dr. Washington identified development as one of his top three priorities for the institution, and he has fulfilled that focus in his short time in the role. He and Ellen Medearis, Vice President for Duke Health Development and Alumni Affairs, are establishing a partnership that reflects his ambition for increased philanthropy for Duke Medicine.
As a world-class academic and health care system, Duke Health strives to transform medicine and health locally and globally through innovative scientific research, rapid translation of breakthrough discoveries, educating future clinical and scientific leaders, advocating and practicing evidence-based medicine to improve community health, and leading efforts to eliminate health inequalities.
