DC Youth Orchestra Program is a comprehensive, curriculum-based program offering fall, spring, and summer sessions of instruction on all orchestral and wind ensemble instruments for beginning through advanced students, ages 4 ½ to 18.
DCYOP emphasizes both access and excellence. DCYOP allows all students to participate, regardless of background, socioeconomic status or ability, but still places importance on and finds success in musical achievement and excellence. The program's inclusivity is what sets DCYOP apart from other youth music organizations. No auditions are required to join at the beginning and intermediate levels, only the desire to learn. About 25 percent of the students receive tuition assistance. In addition to developing musical skills, DCYOP students can develop the confidence, self-esteem, and sense of accomplishment necessary to propel them into their future as contributing and successful adults.
