About Beacon Medical Group

Five years in and Beacon Medical Group has grown to become a national exemplar in innovation in GP servers. Originally formed as a merger of three GP practices in Plymouth and South Devon we have grown further and further and now support over 43,000 patients.

From the outset there has been a clear ambition among founding partners to build a strong and sustainable health care service that improves outcomes for patients, provides opportunities for innovation in a rapidly changing environment and crucially provides a sustainable operating base for the future.

We’ve been one of the first Primary Care Homes and sparked a movement to create over 200 similar sites across England. We have helped to shape national policy on vital health services and have offered support to countless mergers and nascent primary care homes across the South of England.

Working at scale we’ve created a truly mixed clinical team among the first to embed clinical pharmacists and advanced paramedics within our urgent care offering. Our team includes 30 GPs, 26 members of our nursing team and 10 Allied Health Professionals in our urgent care team.

Year on year we’ve developed our clinical services and have focussed on providing the best service we can given the restraints we’re under. That has led to numerous national awards for members of our team.

Each year we host 90 different student placements and are keen to provide a fresh, enriching and supportive environment. We see this as incredibly important in inspiring future generations of clinicians.

Through working at scale we’ve developed a strong infrastructure and take a data first approach to Quality Improvement; often looking outwards across healthcare and other industries for inspiration. We have created teams who are change ready and who have a strong voice in how we develop and feel supported with an outstanding training offer.
