Banking on Women strives to be the premier financial services society dedicated to female students at the University of Melbourne, with the key objective of developing members’ professional skills and helping them in becoming future leaders of the business world.
Founding President Lorna Hu envisioned the idea of Banking on Women in June 2012, upon receiving the inaugural Credit Suisse’s Investment Banking Women’s Scholarship. Having experienced the lack of information, resources and support during internship recruitment season first hand, it became clear that a community dedicated to like-minded young women interested in the financial services industry was absent. Banking on Women has been built as a platform to empower high-potential women to facilitate discussion, engage with female leaders in the industry, as well as inspire and motivate one another in an industry faced with gender inequalities.
With the help of Credit Suisse as our Founding Sponsor, Banking on Women was officially affiliated with the University of Melbourne’s Faculty of Business & Economics in December, 2012. Over 2013 and 2014, Banking on Women has steadily grown its member base, and have secured the support of UBS, Credit Suisse, Macquarie, Evans & Partners, Australian Super, Goldman Sachs and PwC, who facilitate the education of our members through insightful seminars and forums.
