Academics for Companies is a junior enterprise. AFC’s mission is to foster student entrepreneurship and to let students develop their skills as a preparation for the professional world.
Since its foundation in 2007, AFC has become a lively organisation offering an enormous variety of projects and activities for students from different academic backgrounds. These activities are classified in three pillars.
The first pillar is Student Consulting. Within this pillar, AFC creates the opportunity for students to participate in relevant case studies. Students are put together in teams of five motivated students and then work on an interesting project for a company during 10 weeks. Every project team is under supervision of academic and professional mentors, who make sure that the high quality of the work is preserved.
The second pillar is Skill Development. Skill Development focuses on extending the hard and soft skills of the AFC members. This is achieved by organizing interactive workshops, given by external partners. The workshops are primarily oriented at extending the students’ knowledge of specific topics in the business world and at making students acquainted with the latest trends in the professional world. Each workshop is concluded by an enjoyable reception to foster networking amongst students.
The final and third pillar is Entrepreneurship. AFC tries to stimulate entrepreneurship by students organising competitions such as the CleanTechChallange – an idea-competition that focuses on green technology- and the GEWoonDoen! competition –an idea-competition for the Global Entrepreneurship Week. In addition to these competitions, some other initiatives arise. The Student Startup Forum -an exhibition of entrepreneurship- and the AFC Café -an event where entrepreneurs inspire students with their success-story- are two examples of these initiatives.
