Launched in 2008 in New York, ALTUZARRA embodies the quintessential modern woman. Joseph Altuzarra is a multicultural and internationally educated designer whose background and experience have given him a unique perspective and refined vision. From his continental upbringing and liberal-arts education, to his exposure to vanguard designers of New York and classic couture training of Paris, Joseph Altuzarra has created his own distinctive voice. Born and raised in Paris by a Chinese-American mother and French father, Joseph headed to the US after high school and graduated from Swarthmore College with a B.A. in Art and Art History. He then headed to New York, interning at Marc Jacobs before his post at Proenza Schouler. Seeking to master design’s technical underpinnings, he also apprenticed with patternmaker Nicolas Caïto, the former head of the Rochas atelier. Joseph then returned to his native Paris, where he worked as first assistant to Riccardo Tisci of Givenchy. Having honed his technical skills by focusing on tailoring and draping in ready-to-wear collections, Joseph returned to New York to launch his eponymous line in 2008. The Altuzarra brand was borne out of the desire to make the mature modern woman feel sexy and confident. Since its first season, Altuzarra has been consistent in its trademark style – subversive in nature, fiercely feminine, with strong French influences. Altuzarra is currently available in over 50 stockists worldwide and online.
