North Iowa Transition Center is celebrating 40 years of transitional living services in Mason City. Our organizations recently merged to spread administrative overhead, diversify our services and be more competitive in a managed care environment. Our new corporate name is North Iowa Transition and Employment Services, Inc. dba 43 North Iowa but has the same federal ID as NIVC Services, Inc.People with disabilities are no longer working exclusively for NIVC. And, many of the people served by NITC live in their own apartments. They live and work in local communities and businesses throughout north Iowa, alongside Iowans without disabilities. Many things have changed in 50 years, but what has not changed is our commitment to operating small businesses that reduce our reliance on government funding.Government funding accounts for 50 percent of our newly combined $7 million-dollar budget. The remainder is generated from our proprietary business centers:o Affordables and Affordables Marketplace thrift storeso Light Assembly and Packagingo Pallet and Crate Buildingo Java Workso Janitorial ServicesWhen everybody works, everybody wins.
