About 1st Battalion 3rd Marines
The primary mission of the 3d Marine Division is to execute amphibious assault operations and other such operations as may be directed. The Division is supported by Marine aviation, and force service support units and is prepared to be employed, as an integral part of a Marine Expeditionary Force in amphibious operations.
1st Battalion, 3rd Marines (1/3) is an infantry battalion in the United States Marine Corps based out of Marine Corps Base Hawaii, Kaneohe Bay, Hawaii consisting of approximately 900 Marines and Sailors. Nicknamed the "Lava Dogs", they fall under the 3rd Marine Regiment and the 3rd Marine Division. Mission: Locate, close with and destroy the enemy by fire and maneuver, and to repel the enemy's assault by fire and close-combat.
