In addition, the metropolis acquired four new competences: The creation of the Metropolis meets a twofold objective: The first objective is to strengthen the coordinated action of the 51 municipalities for a more efficient management in order to improve the quality of life of their fellow citizens. The second objective is to enable the Metropolis to become a territory of excellence rivaling other major European conurbations and the Mediterranean arc.
