📖 Summary
I am passionate about bringing to the bedside not only the state-of-the-art in cancer care, but also a sensitive, empathetic, and culturally attuned approach to patients. I believe in a multidisciplinary, tailored approach to my patients. Besides clinical work, I am a dedicated and awarded teacher, actively mentoring students from Downstate University and internal medicine residents from Woodhull Hospital. Over the years I have taught medical students, residents, and fellows at Dartmouth Medical School, NYU Medical School and at SUNY Downstate Medical Center. I teach subjects as diverse as anemias, cancer screening, colorectal cancers, and chemotherapeutics. In addition to my clinical and teaching work, I acted as a principle co-investigator of numerous phase II and III clinical trials in hematologic malignancies and solid tumors. As a member of the Clinical Cancer Committee at Dartmouth Hitchcock Medical Center, I was charged with approving new clinical trials. Management is important to me. I strive not only to achieve an intimate knowledge of healthcare systems, but also to improve them wherever I work. To this effect I am a passionate adopter of Lean and Six Sigma tools and philosophy.Faculty @ I teach medical students how to take a pertinent medical history and how to perform an accurate physical examination. From 2014 to Present (1 year) Chief, Hematology and Oncology @ In 2013 I was given the opportunity to build and lead the hematology and oncology program at Woodhull Hospital. Since I arrived, our team grew through adding a hematologist-oncologist, a chemo nurse, a breast surgeon, a social worker, a patient navigator, a radiation oncologist, etc. We solidified the tumor boards by increasing their frequency and having several specialties attend it-from radiology, pathology, breast surgery, gastro-enterology, general surgery, pulmonary and critical care. The number of clinics grew from 2/week to 5/week and we are providing inpatient consultation service every day. We established an excellent working relationship with mental health care services in order to provide a holistic approach to cancer care.Teaching is another forte of the service, with scheduled, regular lectures for residents, grand rounds, etc. Next step is to build a robust clinical trails program. From 2013 to Present (2 years) Faculty @ From January 2014 to Present (2 years) NYUChief, Hematology and Oncology @ Medical Director, Hematology and Oncology, DHMC in Manchester, NH. As medical director I was enabled to build a new team by hiring physicians, nurses, a practice manager, and a research coordinator. In collaboration with my colleagues in radiology, pathology, gastro-intestinal and pulmonary medicine, I created multidisciplinary clinics for our patients suffering of lung and colorectal cancers. I actively participated at marketing the service in the Manchester-Nashua area, giving grand rounds, developing multi-disciplinary, specialized tumor boards, and going out in the community. From March 2003 to 2013 (10 years) Faculty @ As part of faculty at Dartmouth Medical School (now Geisel School of Medicine at Dartmouth), I have taught and supervised medical students, residents in internal medicine, and hematology and oncology fellows.
