* Cloud infrastructure management with configuration versioning and automated scaling
* Software and infrastructure deployment design and scripting
* Custom DevOps software development and design
* Windows and Linux system management including database, single-signon, backup, disaster recovery planning, storage design and virtualization
Key accomplishments:
* Designed and built custom analytics, customer relation and monetization platform for large Asian media company integrating with the company's existing media, gaming and internet channels creating opportunities to leverage customer interaction and data to enable remarketing and retargeting to alternate company products and initiatives at scale. From January 2012 to Present (4 years) Chief Architect & Technical Advisor @ • Hands-on development of software and infrastructure that led to a 3x increase in sales and profitability.
• Developed next-generation product anticipated to increase revenue over the next year by 10x through new product sales and subscriptions.
• Designed product roadmap and strategy for leveraging distribution channels, affiliate programs and social platforms. Results to date show this will increase viral coefficient by at least an order of magnitude in the next 6 to 12 months. From September 2009 to Present (6 years 4 months) Vice President of Engineering & Operations @ Inflection created its own e-commerce and marketing platform that supports an array of high volume Web sites focused on aggregating and productizing extreme amounts of data. Inflection rapidly grew into a profitable and sustainable position and is now a VC backed company after a $30m Series A financing event in 2010. In 2012, Inflection sold its 3 year old family history business for $100m to Ancestry.
• Launched the family history line of business, built the engineering team, NARA 1940 census website for the National Archive and designed the architecture around the technology that built this line of business. Led the technical due diligence effort through the finalization of the deal, separated and transitioned production operations after close.
• Recruited and managed onshore and offshore engineering, IT and QA teams that supported an average revenue growth of over 20% quarter over quarter during my tenure.
• Led the strategy to build an in-house unique payment processing system that enabled the company to securely store credit card information that facilitated Inflection’s first recurring revenue streams and, within 3 months of launch, resulted in nearly a 2x increase in customer lifetime value through use of stored cards using complex and unique recycle logic for maximum success rates during recurring billing.
• Built secure payment card industry (PCI) compliant data centers and cloud environments for storing, transmitting and processing sensitive card data. Certified as an Internal Security Assessor (PCI-ISA) managing ongoing compliance, training and internal auditing for self-assessment and risk mitigation.
• Manage IT & DevOps teams (including budgeting, architecture, operations, disaster planning and key performance measurement), operating five locations world-wide, two data centers, Azure and Amazon Web Services. Setup ITIL processes, architected operational monitoring and automation and surpassed 99.97% uptime across production e-commerce systems. From June 2007 to March 2015 (7 years 10 months) Electrical Engineer / Project Lead / Consultant (2006-2008) @ • Project lead of a $1.2m hyperspectrometer engineering program with a large engineering team that was delivered on-time and within budget. Worked directly with government sponsor managing operational requirements, field trials and post-trial analysis. This instrument was part of the nation’s arms-control and non-proliferation research and operational initiatives.
• Principal investigator and grant recipient of a $120k internal research project to build prototype hardware and software to process hyperspectral images using DSPs and FPGAs. The results of this project led to multi-million dollar government funding for the laboratory to leverage graphics processors for real-time spectral analysis.
• Flight and field-team lead of 15 flight and engineering support personnel during the Katrina and Rita hurricane recovery effort. Provided in-flight direction of operational crew and, for the first time in an emergency situation, led deployment of the real-time hyperspectrometer equipment that we developed, which proved successful in detecting and preventing a potential wide-spread health hazard posed by an ammonia leak from a damaged chemical facility.
• Lead engineer on the pointing and tracking system of the LASI hyperspectrometer project managing the software development team of 4 engineers plus an outside vendor. When first taking over the project, the system was non-operational and behind schedule.
