About Dave Boutcher

As a developer and team leader for Akuna Capital, a Chicago based financial trading company, I am currently leading the creation of a programming group in Shanghai supporting world-wide trading. Our focus is automated options market making, with an emphasis on low latency interactions with the market. Before joining Akuna I lead a similar group at PEAK6 Investments developing software for low latency equity trading in U.S. markets. My previous career was as a Senior Technical Staff Member at IBM, working on operating system development. While my experience included development of AIX and OS/400, by far the most rewarding experience I had at IBM was working on Linux kernel development. Being named (along with hundreds of my colleagues) in the SCO intellectual property lawsuit against IBM was a notable highlight. I enjoy solving difficult technical challenges, and particularly developing solutions to problems that are both elegant and robust. While I have experience with many programming languages, including Java, Erlang, and Python, my deepest expertise is in C and C++. My ability to write user interfaces is on a par with my ability to perform brain surgery.
