Into The Data WorldIn early 2015, I left the role of data scientist on a major public company to begin my own startup. I was fresh out of college and I wanted a chance to learn new skills so I could position myself in a better industry. It was during that time that I learned about data science and machine learning. I was prejudice against these new concepts because I had seen how people talked about data: as aargh-worthy numbers to be churned out by algorithms.After I learned about data science and machine learning, I decided to give it a real try. I applied to a data science internship at a large public company and I got the offer. I was excited to learn about These new techniques and to be a part of a team.I was a little skeptical at first. I knew that there was a lot of hype around these techniques, but I also knew that there was a lot of risk with these techniques. I was anxious about the future of my career.But I got through the application process and I started working on a small project. I was great at doing data science, but I didn't know how to use Python. I used a library that I had learned from a other project.But my project was a success. And I was able to share my experience with other businesses.Now, I'm a data scientist with experience in machine learning. I'm excited about the possibilities that these techniques offer for businesses. I'm also excited about how I can use these techniques to improve safety and efficiency in my workplace.

Daniel Hartley's education has been focused in data science, datascience at galvanize, and bachelor of arts in English language and literature from University of Colorado Boulder. Currently, he is a data scientist at a cybersecurity company, working in their Denver office. Daniel's experiences in leadership at NOLS gave him the opportunity to learn about and manage a wilderness program. In his role as a leader, he learned how to motivate and inspire his team.
