📖 Summary
In elementary school, I faced disciplinary actions for sharing "inappropriate materials" with my peers – a book about female development called "The Care and Keeping of You: The Body Book for Young Girls." I'm still not sure what was inappropriate about passing along a book to my curious friends who didn't feel comfortable talking to their parents, but fortunately, I was not deterred and my desire to help youth learn about themselves blossomed into my passion. I am dedicated to working with and for youth to ensure they have the knowledge and skills to make the best, informed decisions for themselves when it comes to their sexual and reproductive health. I have experience working directly with youth from at-risk circumstances in a variety of settings including classrooms, pregnancy/parenting programs, and juvenile detention facilities. While I have spent years focused on improving positive health outcomes for youth, I have also trained a number of providers on offering effective services to young adults. I am currently working with Scarleteen, one of the highest ranked websites for sex education and sexuality advice for youth. My responsibilities include the role of site editor, data collection management, moderating the message board and text service, creating new content, etc. While I enjoy working directly with individuals, improving sexual and reproductive health is a multi-level process requiring a broad range of skills. I have experience with staff and volunteer management, curriculum design, program development and implementation, and program/agency evaluation.
