Full details can be found on the society's website www.scgsgenealogy.com. The Southern California Genealogical Society, formed in 1962, exists to foster interest in family history and genealogy, preserve genealogical materials, and provide instruction in accepted and effective research techniques. Housed in its headquarters is a 40,000+ volume library with genealogical sources from around the US and Europe. SCGS produces the annual Genealogy Jamboree, one of the largest genealogical conferences in the US, which is typically held the first weekend in June in Burbank, California. SCGS sponsors several interest groups for ethnic research and for computer software users. Current ethnic interest groups include French-Canadian, African American, Irish, Italian, German, Chinese, and Nisei. The Genealogical Society of Hispanic America-Southern California holds its meetings at SCGS and our two organizations are closely affiliated. Groups support the uses of Family Tree Maker, Legacy, RootsMagic and The Master Genealogist software. In addition, DNA and family history writers gather at special interest group meetings. Benefits of membership include 24/7 access to the archive of over 120 webinars presented in the Jamboree Extension Series of webinars. Webinars are held twice monthly and live webcasts are open to the public at no charge.
