Following a vision and the leadership of Admiral Siler, a former U.S. Coast Guard Commandant, the National Maritime Law Enforcement Academy (NMLEA) was established in 2000 to fill a capabilities gap that continues to effect law enforcement and emergency response operations on the water all across America. The NMLEA provides education and training for law enforcement personnel, emergency responders and public safety professionals, as well as for the critical infrastructure industries located on or near the maritime environment. As an extension of an agency's training staff, the NMLEA provides nationally recognized training and exercise programs, assisting agencies and departments of all sizes to improve tactical and response operations within a department.
Our programs are uniquely designed and individually customized to meet each agency's specific needs and utilize their assets in order to increase the officers’ operational capabilities. The key to raising the level of professionalism, proficiency, officer safety and survival is to customize the training to utilize the actual platforms in the environment they will be working in and with the equipment they will be using.
Members of the Academy will be able to receive college credits for the training that they receive, share best practices among their peers in a closed forum, have direct access to instructors and recognized Subject Matter Experts, receive discounts on training courses, and get special access to field tested operational gear and equipment through the Academy's online store. Most importantly, members of the Academy represent America's Maritime Guardians, and we represent them.
As a non-profit membership driven organization, we provide "Strength through Knowledge" and a unique ability to "Ready the Guardians" who patrol, protect and preserve America's waterways.
