Information
We are a small, NYS Accredited department with an authorized strength of 37 members. This includes a Command Staff made up of the Chief of Police, a Captain of Operations, (2) Patrol Lieutenants. The Patrol Division is made up of (4) Sergeants, (4) Corporals, (1) School Resource Officer, and (20) Patrol Officers; one of which is a K-9 Officer. The Detective Division is made up of (1) Detective Lieutenant, (1) Detective Sergeant, and (3) Detectives. The department also has a civilian staff consisting of an Animal Control / Parking Enforcement Officer and a Public Safety Secretary. The Patrol Division is staffed 24/7/365 and works a (12) hour shift rotation. This gives the officers assigned to Patrol every other weekend off, working one (5) day, long week followed by a (2) day, short week. It is made up of (4) Patrol Squads, (2) Day and (2) Night. At full staff, the Patrol Shifts run with (1) Sergeant, (1) Corporal, and (5) Officers. In addition to our Patrol Division and Detective Division, we have other special assignments that officers can request to be a part of: Emergency Response Team with our sister city PD, the Johnstown Police Department. The Glove Cities ERT is made up of officers from both agencies. Bicycle Patrol Officer School Resource Officer Field Training Officer Accident Reconstruction Neighborhood Engagement / Narcotics Enforcement CAC Forensically-Trained Interviewers FBI-Trained Hostage Negotiators Evidence Technician / Crime Scene Specialists Sex Offender Management / NYS Juvenile Officer Property / Evidence Management Accreditation Program Management Police Instructor Training Cadre, made up by (10) NYS General Topics Instructors and led by (1) NYS Master Instructor. Other specialties include Firearms, Defensive Tactics, Patrol Rifle, Taser, Tactical Medical, Use of Force, Mental Health, Principled Policing, Reality-Based Trainer, RAD Instructor, and Physical Training.
