The second oldest childcare center in Tennessee, our organization began in 1891 when Miss Fannie Battle, a teacher and social worker, saw a need in our community. Children were left alone to roam the streets while their parents went to work. She rented a room in East Nashville and began caring for these children by clothing, feeding, educating, and even obtaining much-needed medical attention.
Today, Fannie Battle Day Home continues to provide high-quality childcare to Nashville families. To ensure tuition is affordable for all rates are on a sliding scale based on income and family size. Childcare fees and subsidies only account for about 50% of our operation budget where the remainder is fundraised through individual and corporate contributions, events, and grants.
Through a partnership with Tennessee Department of Human Services and Unite Way of Metropolitan Nashville, we help empower families through the Family Empowerment Program. It is dedicated to career coaching, financial counseling, educational growth, housing assistance, and health & well-being support.
