El Dorado

El dorado inc is cross-disciplinary design studio and fabrication shop based in Kansas City, Mo. that specializes in architecture, urban design and work in the public realm. Founded in 1996, the practice is comprised of architects, artists, industrial designers and educators who (literally) leverage a hands-on approach to tailored, client-specific design solutions. At the core of el dorado’s operational philosophy is a belief that open collaboration between design professionals, clients, municipalities and builders yields the most innovative and appropriate design solutions. El dorado is deeply committed to the local Kansas City community, partnering with Habitat for Humanity, the Make It Right foundation on their work in Manheim Park and the city on numerous infrastructure improvements and beautification projects. In 2010, the Downtown Council of Kansas City named el dorado an “Urban Hero” for it’s deep engagement with the local urban arts community. The work of el dorado inc has been widely published and recognized, appearing in the New York Times, Wall Street Journal, Metropolis magazine, DWELL, Architectural Record and Architect magazine. In 2008, the Kansas City chapter of the American Institute of Architects (AIA) recognized el dorado as “Firm of the Year.” Also in 2008, the Architectural League of New York named el dorado an Emerging Voice.
