Samurai Rugby Football Club was founded in 1996, being inspired by the playing spirit and tenacity of the Japanese national rugby team in the 1995 Rugby World Cup. Samurai Rugby has gone on to become one of the best 7s clubs in the world. It operates on a purely invitational basis, usually creating a new squad of coaches and players for each tournament, with a win/loss ratio which is the envy of the sport.
Squads are usually a mix of professional and amateur players and coaches, but more especially a mix of nationalities with typically at least five or six countries being represented. Players do not get paid for playing and being selected to play for Samurai Rugby is seen as an honour, even for professional players.
Samurai Rugby has a strong performance and development culture and strikes a balance between elite-level playing standards and giving young talented players their first experiences of elite rugby 7s & 10s. The club retains its amateur status and is dependent on the generosity of commercial sponsors for expenses associated with playing tournaments. The club has helped many current and former international professional players and coaches progress up the elite performance pathway.
As the rugby sevens market undergoes exponential growth, at both elite international and grassroots levels, Samurai Rugby, with its history, on-field performances, off-field logistics and reputation is superbly positioned to play a substantial and important role in that growth. It invitational approach repeated over many tournaments over many years has created global network of rugby 7s relationships and contacts that is truly unique in its depth and breadth.
Samurai Rugby is now pushing on expansively to the next level of growth and capability and we are open to investment and sponsorship conversations with relevant and appropriate commercial partners, please contact us for an informal discussion.
