Oddfellows Playhouse was founded in 1975 by Wesleyan students with the desire to engage the community through performance based arts. Oddfellows is Connecticut's oldest and largest youth theater program and is also a not-for-profit 501(c)(3). Oddfellows Playhouse builds essential skills for life through the theatrical arts. The Playhouse annually serves over 1,200 young people, ranging from ages 3-20, representing 31 towns throughout central Connecticut. Oddfellows owns it own 10,000 sq. ft., 3-story historic building. This building houses a flexible theater space with professionally equipped light and sound booth, classroom and rehearsal spaces, technical shop, lobby/gallery space, and administrative offices.
The New England Theatre Conference recognized the Playhouse’s history of quality performing arts and youth education with an Award of Excellence in 1998. In 1999, the Playhouse received a Community Service Award from the Middlesex County NAACP in recognition of its years of commitment to young people, particularly those challenged by poverty. In 2003, Citizens Bank named Oddfellows Playhouse its Community Champion for youth services.
