Art Porter Music Education Inc.

The Art Porter Music Education Inc. is a non-profit corporation (501c3) established to honor the memory of Art Porter Sr. an Art Porter Jr. by promoting music education and providing annual scholarships to college-bound aspiring young musicians in need of financial assistance. Art Porter Sr. was the quintessential community artist. He never officially worked as a touring musician. Instead he chose to perform, teach and contribute to charitable causes while raising his family in his hometown of Little Rock, Arkansas. http://www.artporter.org/the-porter-legacy/art-porter-sr- Art Porter Jr. was a VERVE recording artist who traveled the world but no matter where his music would carry him, he always returned to his beloved hometown of Little Rock where he conducted workshops for music students at the local high schools. http://www.artporter.org/the-porter-legacy/art-porter-jr- It was always their desire to share their creative musical talent and expertise with others. As educators, both formally taught many forms of music but they were highly accomplished in jazz performance. APME’s mission is to continue the legacy of promoting excellence in music, particularly jazz, the only indigenous American musical form, to young people in Arkansas.
