Horse Ability provides professional, ethical, inclusive Equine Assisted Activities and Therapies (EAAT) programs, enabling each participant to build confidence, healthy attitudes, developing skills they carry into their everyday lives.
Both programs are experiential learning models which are typically used as interventions to encourage social skills development, pro-social behaviour, mental and physical health, through groundwork with horses.
The Director, Lori Burns, is certified two models of EAAT:
1. Equine Growth and Learning Association (Eagala) model:
This global organization is a distinct approach to professional mental health and personal development services designed to empower clients through personal and physical experiences by working with a qualified facilitation team consisting of a Mental Health Professional and an Equine Specialist.
2. Equine-Assisted Learning: An experiential, hands-on approach program whereby a person learns and strengthens essential life skills through working with a qualified facilitator and horses as teachers. Teams, including people and a horse, work through a variety of ground exercises designed to teach ‘soft’ skills such as leadership, communication, setting boundaries, and other life skills depending on the objectives of the individual or team.
Our EAGALA and EAL Programs are tailored for people challenged with:
• post-traumatic stress injuries (PTSI’s), Complex PTSD and Occupational Stress Injuries (OSI’s) including military, first responders, victims of traumatic a relationship(s)
