What stopped Daphne Carmeli from barely earning an Associate's degree in psychology from Brandeis University in 1981? Commonwealth Fund's (now Pell Grant)Young Adult Opportunity Guidelines had just been released, and Carmeli saw it as an opportunity to change her career direction. She returned to Brandeis and majoring in mathematics, only to find that the market for psychology graduates was changing too. "At Brandeis, I had the opportunity to study with some of the top minds in the field and I was already in a position to make a difference in my field," Carmeli says. "I also saw that there was an opportunity to start my own business, which I was excited about." Carmeli decided to leave psychology and to focus on her business. She started her own marketing firm, which flourished and Coremelli met her future husband, entrepreneurial college graduate game designer John Carmeli, while running her company. She met other entrepreneurs through her business and eventually co-founded her own business, which is now a multimillion-dollar enterprise.Carmeli hascome a long way since she left college. She has shown persistency and creativity in her business proposition, turning her small business around quickly and profiting from her initiatives. Carmeli's undoubted business acumen and skills are also in evidence as she keynoteed at the 2016 Passive/Active investing Summit.Carmeli has also become highly-skilled in making educational CENTERS available to economically disadvantaged students, through her non-profit organizations, Daphne Carmeli's Reality Check and Daphne Carmeli's Promise.
