York Design Center

The vision is a York based Design Center for Freelancers of all disciplines to come and work permanently, hot desk or just pop in to have a chat with like minded people and talk over a new idea . All kinds of spaces would available to suite or just a drop in from a coffee and do some research.Most of us have a lot of equipment that we can’t lug back and forth and if lucky have the luxury of our own design space. But, some don't or would love that space or just to hot desk.In my experience of freelancing with all the benefits of flexibility, time for family, choosing projects, etc. These all come with a cost. This is that most of your time is spent working on your own. As an ever-growing nation of self-employed workers, the 'workplace' needs a rethink so we don't lose the social aspect that is integral to human nature and health. Just because we don't go to a place of work we shouldn't be denied access to being social and to colleagues that become friends.The aim is to have a not profit-making organisation as no one should make money from you going to work. Just because we've made a choice from going to a traditional work place we shouldn't be denied having social contact.The none profit model would keep it the cheapest possible solution to serve the design community, a cooperative if you will. A Design Club where people could also call on each other to expand the work they could take on.Let me know if it sounds interesting by joining the group or getting touch.
