About Tacoma Rail

Tacoma Rail is a 100 percent self-supported railroad and is one of three operating divisions of Tacoma Public Utilities. As a utility it plays a major role supporting the Port of Tacoma – the seventh largest port in the country and works hard to ensure timely, efficient and cost-effective service. Tacoma Rail's more than 110 employees provide service 24 hours a day, seven days per week and handle all of the responsibilities of any common carrier railroad, including track inspection and maintenance, locomotive maintenance, customer service and administration.
