How does Sydney Water ensure the quality of drinking water?

Sydney Water employs rigorous water quality monitoring and treatment processes to ensure that the drinking water supplied to the community meets or exceeds national health standards. We conduct regular testing for contaminants and maintain a comprehensive water treatment system that includes filtration, disinfection, and chemical treatment to ensure safe and clean drinking water for all customers.

Recycled water is treated wastewater that has been processed to remove impurities, making it safe for certain uses. This helps conserve drinking water supplies and promotes sustainable water use in the community.

What is backflow prevention, and why is it important?

Backflow prevention is a critical measure to protect the drinking water supply from contamination caused by reverse flow of water. Sydney Water implements backflow prevention devices in commercial and industrial settings to ensure that water flows in one direction and does not mix with potentially contaminated water sources. This is essential for maintaining the safety and quality of the drinking water supply for the community.
