Over the last decade Surya Foods has experienced a meteoric rise to the top of the world food sector and has now firmly established itself among the industry’s major players.Under the directorship of brothers Harry and Suki Dulai, the rapidly expanding, family run business, boasts an annual turnover of almost £130 million and an employee base of 1450, with its evolving ranges catering to the South Asian, Oriental, Afro-Caribbean, African and Polish communities.Currently the largest supplier of authentic world food in the UK, Surya supplies and produces a variety of high quality, authentic ethnic products ranging from rice, flour, spices and sauces to snacks and savouries that are sold in over 30 countries worldwide.Many of Surya’s own brands are now market leaders, widely known for their superior quality and popular with the public and ethnic chefs alike due to their authenticity, including Laila Basmati Rice, one of the UK's leading basmati rice brands.Currently offering over 2,500 products across ambient, fresh and frozen, Surya represents over 50 agency lines from some of the world’s top companies as well as its own market leading house-brands, including Laila, Salaam, Apna, Jamaica’s Pride, and Island Sun.With its own distribution fleet of over 100 vehicles, Surya has been able to maintain highly efficient service levels throughout Europe and now boasts a client account base of 3,000 - distributing its products to supermarket chains, independent stores, cash and carrys, wholesalers and food service businesses throughout the UK and the world.Its main hub is an 11 acre site in Harwich - home to its head office and some 500,000 sq ft of storage space.In 2010, within just two years of trading with the multiples, Surya became the largest supplier of world food lines to supermarket giants Tesco and Asda - a position they have continued to maintain. In 2017 the primary brand, Laila, became the third largest rice brand in the UK plus the top performing rice in the category.Acquisitions and stronger management have also been a key focus of the business.
