These lenses are intended to provide visual freedom for patients, lessening or eliminating the reliance on glasses or contact lenses. All of these lenses are foldable, which permits the surgeon to insert them through a small incision. STAAR's lens used in refractive surgery is called an Implantable Collamer Lens or "ICL"​. Over 1,00,000 Visian ICLs have been implanted to date.
It also provides minimally invasive intraocular lenses (IOLs), including foldable IOLs for use in minimally invasive cataract surgical procedures; aspheric IOLs that produce a clearer image than traditional spherical lenses; nanoFLEX IOL, a single piece Collamer aspheric optic; and Toric IOLs for cataract patients, as well as preloaded injectors for use in cataract surgery. In addition, the company sells surgical products, and other related instruments and devices, as well as injector parts; and manufactures AquaFlow devices for the treatment of glaucoma. It markets its products to health care providers, including surgical centers, hospitals, managed care providers, health organizations, group purchasing organizations, and government facilities primarily under the STAAR, Visian, Collamer, CentraFLOW, AquaPORT, nanoFLEX, nanoPOINT, Epiphany, and AquaFlow trademarks. The company sells products directly through its sales representatives and independent distributors in more than 75 countries. STAAR Surgical Company was founded in 1982 and is headquartered in Lake Forest, California. Its manufacturing plant is located in Monrovia, CA.
