The Royal Flying Doctor Service of Western Australia (RFDS) is a leading organisation in aeromedicine, providing critical healthcare to people living in remote Western Australia (WA). Our mission is to provide the finest care to the furthest corners of WA and everywhere in between. For nearly a century as one of Australia’s most trusted charities the RFDS’ dedicated team of doctors, nurses and pilots have worked together to carry out aeromedical retrievals and primary health care clinics, ensuring that no matter where you live across WA, patients have access to the same critical health care available to people living in the city. In 2020-21 the RFDS in Western Australia retrieved 10,097 patients and flew more than nine million kilometres. Our clinicians are highly trained in aero medicine and provide patient care 24 hours a day, 7 days a week every day of the year. Our clinical education team ensures our doctors and flight nurses have access to the finest further education specific to aeromedical retrievals and patient care. Located across five bases in WA, we boast a large fleet of fixed-wing and rotary-wing aircraft. Our team of engineers ensure our fleet is maintained to the highest possible standard. Our dedicated team of pilots transfer patients on PC-12, PC-24 and EC-145 aircraft. With approximately 700 landing sites across the 2.5 million square kilometres of Western Australia, no two days are ever the same. Our team of corporate employees across fundraising, communications, finance, IT, partnerships, marketing and human resources provide our not-for-profit service with the governance and corporate support it needs to remain Australia’s most trusted charity.
