Quality Restaurant Concepts, LLC (QRC) was started in 1988 by Fred Gustin and Glenn (Blackie) Durham. Operating under the name “Applebee’s of North Alabama”, the first Applebee’s location was located at the Brookwood Village Mall in Birmingham, AL.

In 1998 Fred and Blackie purchased 26 additional Applebee’s restaurants in Mississippi, Georgia, and eastern Tennessee. In 1998 the name of the company was changed to “Quality Restaurants” to reflect their geographic expansion.
Presently, QRC has expanded to 60 Applebee’s locations, 1 Legacy BBQ and Brew, and 5 Pie Five Pizza restaurants and growing.
