Possums for Mothers & Babies is an Australian Registered Charity which as a collective community provides evidence-based and expert postnatal help and support for parents and professional training for Health Providers (registered practitioners and other health providers). As a Collective Community, we focus our programs and resources on the first 750-1000 days of life – and primarily the postnatal period. The Possums Programs are based on the latest multi-disciplinary research in lactation science, neuroscience, evolutionary biology, gut and sleep science, and attachment and ACT psychology. Evidence based solutions are critical, to empower parents and counteract the volume of misinformation proliferating and to reduce the fear parents frequently exhibit with young children. Possums Programs and services offer a genuine paradigm shift, flipping ‘popular’ advice to parents, placing the best interests of families over increasingly dominant commercial solutions. Support takes a holistic and multi-disciplinary approach and takes into consideration infant and parental mental health. With membership to our unique Milk & Moon resources, parents have access to an established community of peer supporters. The Possums peer community supports parents who are currently not in the care of a health practitioner and who may not yet realise they need help. The Possums Programs continue to evolve incorporating new evidence in practice from a community of over 600 trained neuroprotective developmental care practitioners, whose practice continues to feedback into peer assessed new content development. The field of NDC practice emerged from the work of Dr Heidleise Als with premature babies and incorporated into the Possums Programs by Charity Founder Dr Pamela Douglas and other doctors and researchers.
