Polish Mountaineering Association was established in 1974 with the transformation of the pre-war Alpine Club. It is a federation of clubs and sections associating climbers, cavers, alpine skiers and climbing competitors . The Polish International Mountaineering organization has been known since 1932 as a founding member of the Union Internationale des Associations d'Alpinism (UIAA), and as a member of the Union Internationale de Speleology (UIS).
Polish Mountaineering Association coordinates sport and training activities, organizes national expeditions, grants permissions for instructors, is responsible for protecting the nature and deals with accidents prevention. Polish Mountaineering Association in the area of Tatra mountains leads Central Training Center on the glade Hala Gąsienicowa and three Tatra mountaineer camps. The Polish Mountaineering Association information authority is the quarterly "Mountaineer".
