Pensacola State College is a public, comprehensive community college that was founded in 1948. Today, the college serves Northwest Florida and Southern Alabama.
In the 1948-1949 academic year, 136 students enrolled and 7 graduated.
In 2007-2008, about 34,000 students enrolled.
The college offers full-service campuses in Milton, Pensacola and Warrington, as well as the Downtown Center and PJC Center at Pensacola Naval Air Station. More than 37 percent of graduating seniors from local high schools begin college life at PJC.
PJC is widely recognized as a premiere two-year college that competes with the best – offering more than 100 majors and areas of concentration, along with the latest high-tech resources and exciting opportunities. Harvard professors held a three-day workshop at the Mary Ekdahl Smart Center for Patient Simulation Training & Research on the Warrington campus. This was the first time Harvard held such a seminar at a community college.
PJC career-planning and university-transfer services help students explore a multitude of academic paths and careers. Offerings: Associate of Arts degree, Associate of Science degree, Associate of Applied Science degree, and certificate programs.
The A.A. degree guarantees admission for PJC students to any Florida state university. Students transfer with ease to nationally recognized colleges such as Cornell, Duke, Vanderbilt and Tulane.
Job placement is 100 percent in most technical areas for PJC students earning certificates, A.S. and A.A.S. degrees.
The A.S. degree also transfers to Florida universities. In addition, the college offers excellent opportunities via its Adult Basic Education and Continuing Education departments, Dual Enrollment program and Adult High School.
