About MOLAR (Maricopa County Oral Health Leaders, Advocates and Resources)

Maricopa County Oral Health Leaders, Advocates, and Resources (MOLAR) is committed to addressing the oral health issues that exist among all populations in Maricopa County, particularly those among the uninsured and under served. A broad based, volunteer driven oral health coalition, MOLAR serves the oral health needs of Maricopa County by developing relationships with community leaders and stakeholders. Our membership base currently represents over 30 organizations and continues to grow.

Our mission, “to advocate, educate, and communicate for greater access to oral health care for everyone in Maricopa County,” was born of the vision and belief that everyone in Maricopa County should have accessible, affordable oral health care. This mission is based upon three core values:
1. Oral health is an essential part of total health.
2. No one should suffer from preventable, treatable oral disease.
3. MOLAR values partnerships as a means to impact health care system changes.

To achieve MOLAR’s Mission, Standing Committees and Work Groups have been formed in various areas. Each pursue actionable initiatives to benefit county residents.

While Maricopa is the fourth largest populated county in the country (larger than 24 states) and accounts for over half of Arizona’s population, it struggles to provide quality health care to its residents. Specifically, Arizona’s oral health arena has ever widening gaps in service delivery and access to care. Although it is almost entirely preventable, more than 40% of Arizona’s third grade children have untreated tooth decay. National statistics estimate more than 52 million hours of school lost because of dental problems. Arizona’s residents, young and old, are suffering from the lack of access to care and resources offered by our state and county. MOLAR hopes through linking community resources that currently exist and creating partnerships, oral health care can become more accessible to all populations in Maricopa County.
