Mercy Women of NZ are women who attended a Mercy College in New Zealand. They are united in their catholic education and their strong connection to their Mercy values and traditions. Through LinkedIn we hope to connect past and present students while celebrating Mercy values as part of our everyday lives. We also aim to increase awareness of the Sisters of Mercy’s Mission and how Catherine McAuley’s vision is lived on a day to day basis. Mercy Women NZ was established by Nga Whaea Atawhai o Aotearoa Tiaki Manatu Sisters of Mercy New Zealand Ministries Trust. Catherine McAuley founded the Sisters of Mercy in Dublin, Ireland in 1831. Today more than 8000 Sisters and their 250,500 companions in mission now work in 47 countries worldwide. Sisters of Mercy first arrived in Aotearoa New Zealand on 9 April 1850 and led what became an extraordinary expansion of Catholic schools Education remains a core work of Mercy. As Proprietor of their five colleges and their special relationship with McAuley College, the Congregation is involved in governance responsibilities at local and national levels. Mercy education philosophy statements reflect Catherine McAuley’s concerns for the empowerment of women through an education which addresses each student’s spiritual, intellectual, emotional and physical development while challenging them to be women of Gospel justice in their own society.
