Hawaii Electric Light Company’s mission is to provide secure, clean energy for Hawaii.

Over the years, Hawaii Electric Light Company has provided energy to over 80,000 customers on the island of Hawai`i. In 1970, Hawaii Electric Light Company was purchased by Hawaiian Electric Company. Hawaii Electric Light Company generates over 1 billion kilowatt-hours of electricity each year and utilizes clean energy sources to generate nearly 50% of that amount (46.7% in 2012).

The energy we use is an essential but limited resource necessary to maintaining our quality of life. In a changing world, Hawaii Electric Light Company along with its parent company, Hawaiian Electric Company, has evolved to offer more than electricity. Today, we provide energy solutions to help customers save money and use energy more efficiently. Hawaii Electric Light Company also continues to pursue the use of more renewable energy alternatives to help ensure a sustainable future for our islands.
