The Department of Communities is the Western Australian government agency responsible for providing services to a diverse range of people, including those with disability, children who are in the legal care of the State and those who need a place to call home.It comprises several former agencies and their components, including:• Department for Child Protection and Family Support• Department of Housing (including Housing Authority)• Disability Services Commission• The communities component of Department of Local Government and Communities• Regional Services Reform Unit• The regional coordination and engagement component of Department of Aboriginal AffairsIt is the Government’s intent that the youth prevention and diversion components of the Youth Justice Services (YJS) team will become part of the Department of Communities through Machinery of Government changes. Until this transition occurs, YJS remains part of the Department of Justice.With responsibility for this wide-spanning combination of services and functions, we have the opportunity to bring about true and lasting social change in the WA community. We’re working to advance opportunities, community participation and quality of life of the people we support, with a clear focus on inclusion, building resilience and meeting individual needs. Regardless of which corner of the State someone lives, we want to be able to effectively plan and deliver services to them in a way that is individualised, accessible, complementary and integrated.
