About ASA College
ASA College, founded in 1985 by Alex Shchegol with just 12 students, has evolved from its humble beginnings in a small Manhattan classroom into a thriving educational institution with over 3,000 students and a diverse array of 20 programs of study. Originally known as Advanced Software Analysis, the college was established to address a critical shortage of qualified mainframe programmers in New York City. Today, ASA College boasts two centrally-located campuses in midtown Manhattan and downtown Brooklyn, along with an additional campus in Hialeah, Florida.
The college has expanded its focus beyond computer technology to include rapidly-growing fields such as healthcare, business, and criminal justice. This evolution reflects ASA’s commitment to adapting its curriculum to meet the changing demands of the job market. The programs are designed with a hands-on training component, catering to a student body that includes highly motivated and mature immigrants.
In 1999, ASA received authorization from the New York State Board of Regents to confer degrees in key areas including accounting, computer programming, information technology, and medical assisting. The college achieved initial institutional accreditation from the Middle States Commission on Higher Education in 2010, with a successful reaccreditation in March 2015. Notably, ASA College’s Associate Degree program in Medical Assisting is programmatically accredited by the Medical Assisting Education Review Board (MAERB) of the Commission for Accreditation of Allied Health Education Programs (CAAHEP).
