SIAC, an independent, not-for-profit organisation, was established in 1991 to meet the demands of the international business community for a neutral, efficient and reliable dispute resolution institution in a fast-developing Asia.
SIAC's operations are overseen by the Board of Directors, which consists of well-respected lawyers and corporate leaders from China, India, Korea, UK and Singapore. The Board is responsible for overseeing SIAC’s operations, business strategy and development, as well as corporate governance matters.
The SIAC Court of Arbitration comprises 16 eminent arbitration practitioners from around the world, including Australia, Belgium, China, France, India, Japan, Korea, Singapore, UK and the USA. The main functions of the Court include the appointment of arbitrators, the determination of jurisdictional challenges and challenges to arbitrators, as well as overall supervision of case administration at the Centre.
As an institution administering arbitration, SIAC is committed to complete impartiality and transparency in all that it does for parties. Broadly, it helps parties in:
• Appointment of arbitrators when they cannot agree on an appointment
• Management of the financial and other practical aspects of arbitration
• Facilitation of the smooth progress of arbitration
SIAC carries out these responsibilities according to its published guidelines in its Code of Practice. SIAC seeks to promote the highest standard of conduct and delivery in all arbitrations conducted under its auspices.
With a multinational and multi-cultural professional secretariat, SIAC is devoted to serving all its users with a complete understanding of their needs.
