Nevada State High School

In the summer of 2003, the founding members of Nevada State High School wanted to provide motivated high school students with a choice in their education. This choice would give students the opportunity to attend real college classes with the support of the school, which would help them transition from high school to the college environment. The school was developed as a small school that directly links expectations to performance. To accomplish this, NSHS provides students easy access to mentoring and tutoring, the flexibility to select their own schedules, and gives students the ability to graduate from high school with up to two years of college experience. The school’s financial plan maximizes the use of public dollars and gives money back to families by paying for up to two years of college tuition, fees, and textbooks. Students also save time by getting a jumpstart on their career choices. The founding members of Nevada State High School would like to recognize the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation and their efforts and research to the early college initiative (www.earlycolleges.org).
