Overview:"One must go out of one's house to begin learning..."
Kokrobitey Institute was established to allow for the discovery of the social, cultural, historical, and intellectual resources of Ghana, and all of Africa, in order to acknowledge and celebrate the importance of these resources in the formation of a 21st century global view. Today, Kokrobitey Institute focuses its activities in environmental studies, art and design, opening its doors to an international community of learners.
Kokrobitey Institute, situated in Ghana on the West Coast of Africa, was founded to expand our sense of a world worth knowing about to include Africa and her people.
Our mission is to offer study programs and implement local and sustainable development projects focused in Environmental Studies as well as Art and Design that view these disciplines through the lenses of the cultural, social, historical and natural resources of Ghana.
Programs serve both the local and International communities at large with the goal of investigating traditional knowledge and technologies for their relationship to modern development.
A cornerstone feature of learning at Kokrobitey is the sensitive integration of the cultural arts (literary, musical and visual) throughout the core activities of workshops, lectures, field trips and community service. At Kokrobitey, students are able to share in rich traditions and historical events that connect the cultures and economies of Africa to the rest of the world.
The Kokrobitey Institute welcomes passionate and forward thinking individuals to join our team in Ghana. Our internship program has projects that fit a wide range of interests in education, development, sustainability or design. We house all our staff on the residential grounds and provide three meals daily. Although we cannot reimburse interns for travel to Ghana, we can offer our interns a monthly stipend.
