The mission of Kids First Health Care, formerly Community Health Services, is to improve the health and well-being of infants, children and youth through providing primary and preventative health services in partnership with schools and other community organizations.
Kids First is a private, non-profit organization created specifically to meet the health care needs of children ages birth to 21 throughout Adams County. Current services include:
• Primary health care and related services provided at two community-based health clinics and four school-based health centers (SBHCs)
• Walk-in immunization clinics
• Mental health counseling in select SBHC sites
• Educational presentations in schools on health topics such as nutrition, obesity, alcohol and drug abuse, high-risk behavior, smoking cessation and other topics
• Car seat safety-check program
• Outreach and application assistance for enrollment into Medicaid, CHP+, and Affordable Care Act (ACA) insurance programs
• School nursing services to more than 17,000 students in 32 schools in Adams County School Districts 14 (Adams 14) and 50 (Adams 50)
Since 1978, Kids First has provided over 142,000 health care visits to more than 55,000 children. During the 2012-2013 school year alone, at Kids First sites:
• 9,131 health care visits were provided to 3,700 infants, children and youth.
• 6,292 immunizations were administered to 3,369 children and adolescents.
• 607 mental health counseling visits were provided to 89 children and adolescents.
• 957 children were enrolled in Medicaid, CHP+, or the Kids First sliding fee scale.
