Overview:International House (IH) is a residential college of the University of Queensland.
IH provides fully catered accommodation for 200 undergraduate students & self-catered accommodation for 37 postgraduate students attending the University of Queensland. Our composition is 50% International and 50% Australian with approximately 37 nationalities represented.
We are part of the IH WorldWide (IHWW) movement whose mission is to provide students of different nationalities & diverse cultures with the opportunity to live & learn in a community of mutual respect, understanding and international friendship & so pave the way for future leaders in a global community.
IH has contributed significantly to the multiculturalism and community of Queensland since its inception in 1965. IH has significantly impacted on the CALD makeup of the Queensland community, with many of its alumni & their families significantly contributing to the arts, cultural, academic, political & sporting disciplines achievements of Queensland.
The college operates as a ‘Community for Understanding’, & as a social enterprise it has four themes:
Being culturally diverse, aware and inclusive;
Being socially engaged &responsible, &;
Being supportive of residents.
