At Harambee we understand businesses’ concerns about the risks of employing first-time workers. To reduce these risks, we have developed a bespoke model that, on scale, sources, trains and places unemployed young people from disadvantaged backgrounds into first-time jobs.
In South Africa, employers struggle to find entry-level staff with the behaviours, ability, interest and attitude needed to perform in their specific business. Our track record shows that Harambee can successfully supply motivated and valuable employees from a previously untapped talent pool, while improving retention rates and lowering HR and training costs.
Our tailor-made bridging programme ensures that new staff have the confidence, skills and functional behaviour to do more than just a job – they have the potential to build a career.
These bridging programmes train in the skills needed for a range of jobs, from the complex to the not-so-complex. We currently focus on sectors that battle to find people with the right qualities, and face high staff turnover. These include retail, business process outsourcing or BPO, hospitality and financial services. Our bridging courses are customised to employers’ needs. Each programme is designed to train staff for the specific sector and role, providing companies with work-ready individuals.
And for job-seekers, Harambee is a free service that helps young South Africans overcome many of the difficulties they face in finding and keeping their first job. Our assessments and training help them get and keep a real job at a real company.
Harambee is funded by the government Jobs Fund and works with over 100 large corporate employers across the country such as Hollard, Woolworths, Nando’s, Direct Axis, Ster Kinekor, Pink n Pay and Burger King.
