Founded by Marten Dresen, the Good Group seeks to showcase a different approach to doing business as usual: social business - business which has people not profit at its heart. The Good Group’s portfolio of Good Hotels is the current manifestation of Marten social business vision. Combining doing business with doing good, Good Hotels are not just another hotel chain – Good Hotels reinvests all of its profits to support its charity partners and to further its bespoke in-house Good Training programme which provides new opportunities for locals in need. The Good Group story started Antigua de Guatemala, in 2006, when Netherlands-born Marten combined volunteering and backpacking while travelling through Central America. It was here that Marten met a little girl called Mirna who didn’t have any shoes and he decided to buy her some. Seeing her reaction and realising that such a small act could do so much, changed Marten's life. Getting to know Mirna and her family made it clear that he could do more for the future of this young girl, her family, her local community, and her country. So, he did. Marten went on to found an NGO Niños de Guatemala, and later the Good Group. Through the work of the NGO and the Good Group, communities in Guatemala have seen the building of new schools, the creation of jobs, and the education of hundreds of children who otherwise would not have had access.
