The Good Group story started Antigua de Guatemala, in 2006, when Netherlands-born Marten combined volunteering and backpacking while travelling through Central America. It was here that Marten met a little girl called Mirna who didn’t have any shoes and he decided to buy her some. Seeing her reaction and realising that such a small act could do so much, changed Marten's life. Getting to know Mirna and her family made it clear that he could do more for the future of this young girl, her family, her local community, and her country. So, he did. Marten went on to found an NGO Niños de Guatemala, and later the Good Group. Through the work of the NGO and the Good Group, communities in Guatemala have seen the building of new schools, the creation of jobs, and the education of hundreds of children who otherwise would not have had access. This turned into the social business that is Good Group, which continues to spread globally.
