Overview:With 75% of Queensland affected by the 2011 floods, water rapidly rising in parts of Victoria and New South Wales, and over 350 dead in the Brazil floods we (the digital community) thought we could do something to help.
Appealing for help using social media, in merely 12 hours we had over 500 responses from across the globe, which we narrowed down to a team of 30 people spanning nine cities across five continents, all with varying skill sets.
Less than 72 hours later we launched www.floodaid.com.au, a social resource that connects people in need with people that can help.
With mother nature truly beating down on us and 57% of us talking online more than we do in real life, social media is fast becoming the key to saving lives and connecting communities.
Floodaid.com.au is not a charity, nor is it a business. We're not a non-for-profit or an organisation. We're merely an international group of like-minded people following a vision and combining skills to create a new type of social network with big plans for the future.
